Push Hands Principles updated Sept 13, 2007

(Chris Luth introduced me to Four Push Hands principles in dealing with Conflict Resolution.

Thank you Chris for sharing and I pass it on with my own embellishments.)

Center

Calm yourself

Ground yourself into a solid; balanced,

comfortable space both mentally and physically.

Relax your shoulders, relax your mind, and let go of panic.

Settle down both physically and mentally.

Vision

Offence- Have a plan

Visualize the best outcome you would like to attain from the conflict.

Extend

   Ting-Jing

   Listening energy

   Extend into your partner,

become part of and not separate from your partner.

Somebody it there, but no one is there– (you ren you wu ren)

   Let go of expectations.

   Respond, do not react.

   Hua-Jing

   Redirecting energy

Diverting or changing the direction of your partner’s force.

Go the direction of force and turn it in a circle.

   Transform

    Na-Jing

   Control energy

Be in control of the interchange with your partner.

If you are in control, you can manipulate all situations.

Control energy sets up the move for execution (Fa jing)

You can not have Na-jing unless you have an understanding of Ting & Hua energies

   Wei Jing

   Feeding energy

You feed (give energy to) a move to draw in

or make your partner believe that you are at a disadvantage.

Yield (Defense)

After you have done everything possible to affect the outcome of the conflict,

you must then yield, let go. If there is nothing there, then there is no conflict.

Soften. No Force against Force.

Fa-Jing (Offence)

Explosive Energy

You cannot do Fa Jing unless you have Ting, Hua and Na energies working well.

Fa Jing manifests (becomes visible) at the end of the move.

For Fa Jing to be effective, your partner must be off balance.

Fa Jing energy manifests after pushing down into the ground with the Tan Tian and feet.
